Nature as a Sculptor

An identity in flux

These rocks have been standing on the island of Gotland for more than 400 million years, and they’ll probably be there for a very long time after you and I have passed on. But even though they seem frozen in time, they do change all the time. The wind, the sand and the sea are all affecting its physical appearance. The people that venture to this part of the world create their own memories and stories about these sea stacks; this, too, changes them.

A geological history map

I have travelled to different parts of Gotland to make photographs of the various rock formations since 2018. Accompanying the bursted rocks are close-up images of the different textures, forms and fossils of the rocks, creating a map of the island and a tour of its geological history. My goal with this project is to make people aware of the beauty the nature of Gotland holds, and hopefully invoke a sense of wanting to preserve it in a time when our environment is in a critical state.

A small part of this project was exhibited in Stockholm at JUSTE Gallery 2-4th of December 2022, and at SCOPE Art Fair in Miami Beach 29th of November - 4th of December 2022.
